Grilled clove and cinnamon peaches

Sometimes you just have to add a scoop of ice cream to something so decadent.
Grilled peaches typically are a warm peach with char marks that is a nice change of pace from the regular peach but doesn't really make a lasting impression. These peaches will make a lasting impression. I guarantee it.  I have been having a bit of a sugar craving lately. My diet is so restricted and so perfectly paleo that I need a little indulgence to keep me sane. Once in awhile when I am feeling crazy I eat the forbidden evil known as refined white sugar. *Cue paleo community collective gasp*

I have mentioned before that most people following the paleo diet don't go as full on strict as I have to. Because of my son's serious food issues I have no wiggle room on his list of forbidden foods. So I kind of figure that I am so healthy that I can have a little fun once in awhile. I try to keep most refined sugar out of our diet because it is bad for you but sometimes you just have to be bad.

Did I do a good enough job of making excuses for eating what is really a tiny amount of something anyway? Good. Okay then. On to the recipe. Write this down. Or bookmark it. Whatever you do.

Ingredients:
  • A handful of delicious ripe peaches
  • A 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 tbl cinnamon
  • 1-2 dozen cloves
  • aluminum foil
Directions:
Boil a pot of water. While that is starting, make a large bowl full of ice water on the side. Cut a small X on the bottom of each peach. Place the peaches in the boiling water for about 30 seconds each then drop them into the ice bath. This will stop them from cooking and make the skin quite easy to peel back. Peel off all of the skin and set aside to dry.

Pull out the foil and place about 5-6 cloves in each peach. They will slide in very easily and should stay put. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. Roll the peaches in the mix. Place each peach in its own piece of foil and make a cute little steam pouch.

Place these pouches on the grill over low-medium heat for 25 minutes. Make sure they are not being flamed up on or they will really overcook. You can also place them on the bun warming/hotdog section of the grill if you are planning on making the grill really warm.

Once done, pull out of the steam pouches and pour into a bowl. There will be a nice juicy syrup that has formed from the sugar. You can remove the cloves and serve whole or place a finger on the top of the peach and push down slightly. This will make the peach split in two perfectly. It is like culinary magic.

Enjoy immediately or refrigerate. You can even freeze these for later.
